About the Item
A set of seven teak wood chairs with Indian cane cane-work, model "Svedese" (Swedish) manufactured by Gasparini in Chiavari, 1950s.
The Chiavari chair has traversed two centuries of history, adapting to different styles and trends, yet maintaining its charm and personality. Lightness and strength are features found in all models produced in the Italian town of Chiavari. In the second half of the twentieth century, numerous manufacturers competed to create increasingly sophisticated designs with an international flair. For years, Gasparini was renowned for producing high-quality chairs aimed at a discerning clientele. Each chair that left their workshop stood out for its meticulous technical construction. This quality was achieved through careful preliminary design, ensuring the right proportions, aesthetics, and finishes.
The chair, offered as a set of seven and nicknamed "Svedese," is inspired by Nordic style and shares with it the warm hues of the wood, combined with untreated natural rush. The chair's frame is carefully crafted, with each component featuring square sections. Even the seat is rigorously square, complementing the "angular" design that defines the chair's aesthetic. Noteworthy is the skillful reduction of the section of the backrest supports and at the leg terminal ends. This tapering at the extremities highlights the concept of lightness, which the chair's actual reduced weight, once lifted, does not betray.
This set of chairs has undergone a complete professional restoration, with all seats carefully re-woven by hand using the fine fibers of Indian cane, maintaining the continuity with the historical production of Chiavari chairs.
