About the Item
Inspired by the casual elegance of Scandinavian cafes with their clean, minimal aesthetic and just enough whimsy to keep the vibe fun, the Sommar Dining Chair was designed to fill a variety of roles. It has the right amount of rustic charm to be at home in a pub, yet is refined enough to be seated at the dining table.
Every board that goes into making a chair is carefully chosen; they must be straight grained and free of knots for maximum strength. The select lumber is then milled by machines and shaped by hand to form the spindles, legs, and comb. Each chair part is polished with well sharpened planes and spokeshaves which provide a rich sheen unattainable by sandpaper. They are then finished with an all natural oil and wax blend. Shown in white oak, the Sommar Dining Chair is also available in walnut and maple.

West of Noble is a Los Angeles based design practice dedicated to the pursuit of making wooden furniture by hand. It was founded by designer and itinerant woodworker Greg Mitchell in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in 2011, but is inspired by a lifetime of travel, time spent on the sea, various odd jobs, wooden sailboats, and friends and family; without whom the company would not exist. Our designs are guided by the making process, and the unpredictable nature of our chosen material. We aim for the simplest line in each piece, believing it is only finished when there is nothing left to take away.
