The Yakisugi Chair is one of MODU Studio’s most sculptural and iconic creations—an embodiment of craftsmanship, tradition, and contemporary form.
Each piece is meticulously hand-sculpted by skilled artisans. The chair’s backrest is shaped from solid maple and finished using the ancient Japanese technique Yakisugi, which translates to “burnt cedar.” This evocative process not only preserves the wood but also lends it a deep, tactile texture and a rich, charred beauty that speaks of time and fire.
The legs, cast in liquid bronze, gleam like sculptural jewelry. Beyond their striking appearance, they serve a thoughtful function—the chair is height-adjustable and can transform from a dining chair to a bar stool, offering versatility without compromising elegance.
