About the Item
This rare armchair was designed by Olof Ottelin in 1958. The model was named 'Jumbo' and was produced under model number 174 by Keravan Stockmann in Finland. The Jumbo was not only Ottelin's most original and iconic design, it was also the designer's own favourite chair. The design was in line with the the trend of low lounge chairs which were placed in front of fire places or windows with a view at the time. The chair existed in a blue, red or white lacquered version, as well as an unlacquered, natural wood version.
The design is marked by the clever construction consisting of a lacquered solid beech wood frame, rounded and slightly curved back and seat and the sadde leather armrests. The soft lines, color combinations and different materials used make this a visually attractive and playful design from all angles.
The chair is in very good, completely restored condition. The blue lacquer on the chair is the original lacquer and has only been retouched in a few areas of previous paint loss. The leather armrests have been renewed in saddle leather, using the same construction, material and color as the original armrests. Pictures of the chair prior restoration are available.
The upholstery has been renewed with a new interior upholstery. The fabric chosen is a beige linen Dedar fabric. The gentle and soft waves of a delicate chevron pattern offer a gentle rhythm to the surface of this textural fabric with natural tones. Sourced in France and Belgium, the protagonist is the finest linen.
