About the Item
Classic elegant Danish high back armchair from the 1940s by Alfred Christensen for Slagelse Mobelvaerk with open armrests in beautifully carved stained beech wood. Nice slim elegant sculptural silhouette with saber shaped legs. Solid and sturdy construction and very comfortable. The carved armrest have been lightly refinished but still maintains the original wear and patina. The chair has been newly reupholstered in a light grey short fleece curly shearling (sheepskin) and is just to die for. Overall very good condition with just minor age wear and patina to the legs and armrests.

Adopting the trend of abandoning ornamentation to benefit the form, Christensen maintained the beauty and warmth inherent to traditional Danish cabinetmaking. In consequence, this armchair has a beautiful, warm look with rounded edges and an open look. The only ornamentation is the piping cord that runs along the edges of the body. The unique colour of the velour upholstery in combination with the dark, stained beech legs create warm elegance, perfect to bring a modern touch to any space.
