English Georgian Mahogany Upholstered Lolling Chair, 1770

About the Item

English Georgian mahogany lolling chair upholstered with saddle brown leather. The upholstered back panel has a serpentine crest rail above an upholstered seat. The elbow rests are upholstered and supported by sloping arm brackets. The chair rests on square legs, with boldly raked rear legs which are joined by an “H” stretcher. The frame has been upholstered with linen webbing, dacron wrapped horse hair, and covered in a saddle tan leather (original fill was a combination of horse hair and straw with cotton batting). England, circa 1770.

    Reupholstered. Refinished. Repaired. Wear consistent with age and use. Mahogany show wood has been cleaned and polished. Frame has been stabilized with re-glued joints, replaced framing, and rear corner blocks. Chair has been reupholstered in leather. Wear commensurate with age and use.
