About the Item

Francis Jourdain, pair of armchairs, straw, beech, pine, France, 1930s This exquisite pair of lounge chairs, designed by Francis Jourdain (1876–1958) in France during the 1930s, embodies both elegance and craftsmanship. The chairs feature a striking raked backrest and a seat made of intricately woven straw, which forms a captivating pattern. The dark-stained pine frame, with its sculptural wooden structures, adds a timeless, organic touch to the design. The way the frame is built, in a reconstructivist manner, is typical of French design from the first half of the twentieth century, reflecting the innovative spirit of the era. A similar model of this remarkable piece can be found in the prestigious Centre Pompidou in Paris, highlighting its significance in the history of French furniture design. Kindly note that this set is in used condition and shows signs of wear and use. The chairs show differences in dimensions when compared. Restoration can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece contains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized restoration is possible as well.
