Louis XV Fauteuil in Walnut with Painted Accents, France c. 1760

About the Item

A fine Louis XV period Walnut Fauteuil, featuring carved foliate designs on the exposed apron & seat-back, and restrained green painted accents. Dating from the mid-1700s, and French in origin. The shaped back with a crest of deep carved floral designs, highlighted by gilding. The chair framed by down swept arms with padded armrests, each tapering to join the exposed walnut apron. The apron decorated in a similar manner to the back-rest, and resting atop four graceful cabriole legs ending in raised pad feet. For reference, please see pg. 473 of "The Antiques Directory: Furniture" by Judith & Martin Miller, examples related to this chair's design found in plates E1 & E2.     Wear consistent with age and use. Excellent antique condition, with minimal wear and scuffing to the walnut frame, and retaining it's carved designs & painted accents with minor wear. The cabriole legs intact and in fine condition, and the upholstery later.
