About the Item

Fabulous vintage Mid-Century Modern tone on tone royal blue & iridescent green striped recliner and ottoman attributed to Selig Monroe chair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This chair was reupholstered as some point in its life and is in fabulous condition. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Mid-20th Century. Blue, Blue… Blue Green Chair… And Ottoman!! Sorry, a little Elvis overcame me!! This is a fantastic vintage reclining chair and ottoman that has been reupholstered in a gorgeous royal blue and iridescent green tone on tone striped fabric with button detail, arm covers, a headguard, and two matching throw pillows. This fabric is a phenomenal eye teaser!! In a darker room the fabric takes on a darker navy, almost black color, but in a room with brighter lighting, depending on the angle, the royal blue or iridescent green is more prominent. It’s FABULOUS!! This set is attributed to the wonderful Monroe chair by Selig, but the body of the chair is also very similar to the style and quality of Edward Wormley for Dunbar… it’s just awesome!! Both the chair and ottoman stand beautifully on straight, tapered wood legs and the tall back of the chair reclines. It has continual reclining positions so you can recline just a little, a lot, and everything in-between. There is no footrest attached to the chair, so that’s where the matching ottoman comes in!! You decide if you want your feet up or not! And talk about comfortable!! This is exactly the chair and ottoman you want in front of the television in your living room or in front of the fireplace with a book on a cold, rainy day. They would be wonderful in the corner of your bedroom or in the sitting room next to a gorgeous floor lamp. It is mid-century modern, but it will blend in beautifully with many design styles and décor. Comfort, versatility, and superb style all wrapped into this dynamic duo. What are you waiting for? Make this exquisite set yours!! MCM Grand Haven Chair by Jack Van der Molen for Jamestown Lounge in Blue Fabric
By Jamestown Lounge Company, Jack Van der Molen
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous Mid-Century Modern Grand Haven dining or accent chair designed by Jack Van Der Molen for Jamestown Lounge Company. Beautiful vintage condition. We had the foam replaced in the original cushion, but it still wears its original blue hopsack fabric. We have deep cleaned the fabric but there are still hints of staining. Hard to find but it is there. I would not be afraid to use it however. The original webbing has been replaced and the wood has been restored to its original glory. However, you may still find small imperfections as it is a vintage piece. Please see photos, circa 1950s-1960s Roses are red, violets are blue, and so is this awesome Grand Haven chair we have to offer you!!! We have a vintage ad that denotes these as “the famous Grand Haven chair, winner of the coveted House Beautiful Classic Award given for exceptional value in design, construction and comfort.” That couldn’t be more accurate! Besides the obvious beauty, this chair is super comfortable and ready to grace your mid-century modern home with its bold presence. It wears its original blue “hopsack” fabric, and we had the foam replaced in the original cushion, so it is closer to its original condition. This would be a wonderful accent chair to have in your entry way for sitting as you remove your shoes or a king chair at your dining table. Wherever you choose to put it, this chair is sure to be your new conversation piece. Jack Van der Molen is an award-winning gifted American designer of the mid-20th century. He was born in 1922 and is a man of many accomplishment and talents. He was awarded five Battle Stars for his actions during WWII, is a fabulous golfer winning many tournaments, and an excellent watercolorist with work in private and commercial collections. He was educated at Kendall School Design in Grand Rapids. His furniture design work successfully combines organic details with clean lines. He designed several lines of furniture for Jamestown Lounge Co. including “Americana Casual”. He even won the coveted House Beautiful Magazine “Best Chair of the Year” award for his “Grand Haven” chair for Jamestown in 1959. In addition, he collaborated with Dupont initiating use of polyester fiber in upholstered furniture. His 61 years designing for top manufacturers is celebrated by how desirable and sought after his designs are today. Jamestown Lounge Company of Jamestown, New York was founded in 1888 by four partners. They first manufactured, obviously from their name, only lounges. These were long armless, backless, upholstered pieces with a hard roll at one end…what my mother always called a “fainting couch”. They soon added other box couches and convertible sofa beds leading into full manufacturing of all kinds of case and upholstered goods. They are famous for their Feudal Oak...

By Hibriten
Located in Topeka, KS
Stunning pair of vintage Mid-Century Modern royal blue and chrome armchairs by Hibriten Chair Company. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The chrome has no pitting that we have seen, and the fabric shows hardly any sign of use. There may be slight fading, but it is overall and so… not noticeable. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s Bold, beautiful, and royal blue!!! This is a gorgeous pair of vintage armchairs by Hibriten Chair Company. They are constructed of square chrome tube frames and wear a lovely royal blue fabric on their seat and back. They’re just BEAUTIFUL!! They would be wonderful used as side chairs in your living room, family room, bedroom, study, or as host and Hostess chairs at either end of your Mid-Century Modern dining table. They are very versatile and have that pop of color you have been needing in that dull space. Regardless of where you choose to use them, they are sure to be eye-catching, comfortable, and full of Mid-Century Modern style. Hibriten actually had 2 companies- Hibriten Furniture Co, and Hibriten Chair Co. Both located in Lenoir, N. C. Hibriten Furniture was founded in the 1920’s by Orrin Robbins and Hibriten Chair Co. was founded a few years later by Robey Robbins. Hibriten Chair Co. was well known for its extremely high quality of solid mahogany or walnut French reproductions and other styles of furniture. Hibriten became a part of Bernhardt Furniture in the 1950-1960’s with their president George C. Robbins and was eventually purchased by Bernhardt sometime in the early 1970’s. A fun fact… The furniture on the set of the popular 1965-1971 television show “Green Acres...

Vintage Mid-Century Modern Club Lounge Chair by Flair Division for Bernhardt
By Bernhardt
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome Mid-Century Modern club chair or lounge chair from the Flair Division of Bernhardt Furniture. It is in wonderful vintage condition and wearing its original light turquoise blue nubby fabric. It has been professionally cleaned but the fabric does have fading as you would expect and there are still stains but no holes or tears. It will be at its best recovered. It is priced accordingly. Please see photos, circa 1960s. I must tell you when we walked into the home where we obtained this chair and many of our other recent and soon to be offerings, I thought if I was ever going to faint this is the time. Of course, the house itself blew me away and then……the original furniture and art in all its glory. This chair is part of a three-piece living room suite by Bernhardt Furniture Flair Division and we are offering all three pieces this week. This club chair with its Lawson styling and loose cushions is really comfy; plus, it is held up off the floor with a fabulous base. The base or legs are comprised of a pair of walnut planks turned upright and running from front to back on each side of the chair. Simple yet dynamic. Bernhardt Furniture was established in 1889 by John Mathias Bernhardt and has been going strong for over 125 years. He spent many years out west in Oregon Territory. After a serious illness, traveling back home to Lenoir, North Carolina and working as a logger in the densely forested foothills of Grandfather Mountain...
