Mid-Century Modern Oak Lounge Chairs by Antonín Heythum, Prague, 1930s

About the Item

Mid-Century Modern Oak Lounge Chairs by Antonín Heythum, Prague, 1930s This rare pair of oak lounge chairs was designed by the renowned Czech designer Antonín Heythum in the 1930s. They are characterized by bold, architectural lines and solid craftsmanship, reflecting early modernist ideals of functionality, simplicity, and honest use of materials. Heythum (1901–1954) was a leading figure in Czechoslovak modernism. As an architect, designer, and educator, he contributed to international exhibitions and played a significant role in shaping 20th-century design in Central Europe. His works often blend ergonomic sensibility with minimalist elegance, and these chairs exemplify that approach. Crafted in Prague, these chairs are not only visually striking but also historically significant. Their sculptural form and original black finish provide a strong presence, making them ideal for collectors or interiors that appreciate rare modernist pieces. They are in very good vintage condition, showcasing a beautiful patina consistent with their age. This pair is a timeless addition to any modern or eclectic setting.
