Mid-Century Modern Pair of Sculptural Lounge Chairs in Teal Velvet

About the Item

Pair of lounge chairs, velvet, beech, Europe, 1960s The shape of the armchairs are distinctly organic, marked by a sense of fluid continuity in the curves of the armrests and backrest. The arms rise gently from the seat, sweeping outward in a motion that feels both welcoming and relaxed, echoing the ergonomic priorities of the post-war design ethos. The backrest flows seamlessly into the rear legs in a kind of soft, enveloping gesture, avoiding any sense of stiffness or abrupt geometry. What is particularly interesting is the play between the robust volume of the upper body and the delicate taper of the legs. The legs are thin, pointed, and splayed slightly outward, a typical mid-century modern move that lends the heavy upper form a kind of unexpected lift. This juxtaposition – the grounded fullness of the body against the light, elevated base – creates a tension that feels both grounded and airy. Kindly note that the chairs are in good, used condition.
