About the Item
This armchair, produced in the 1960s, presents a solid Brazilian Rosewood structure and leather upholstery. The piece mixes straight lines and turned elements with gorgeous angles, achieving a stunning silhouette from whatever point of view.
Our team has a thesis, but the authorship is still unconfirmed through archival sources. Besides the angled turned legs, one of the most memorable details is the spheres at the tips of the front legs – that also work as a rest for the hands, very useful for seating or getting up in low seat heights like this.
The seating is a single piece of thick black natural leather inclined to accommodate the body perfectly supported by structured firm backs — a fortunate encounter of form and function.
Among the icons, there is a whole universe of craftsmen and small companies that embraced modern design, with Brazilian materials and forms — well-designed and quality furniture, still waiting to be known by the public.
This unrestored and in a very well-condition armchair. Wood restoration is included as a courtesy from our experienced restoration workshop.

View AllVintage Rosewood Armchair by Celina Decorações, Brazilian Midcentury, 1960s
By Celina Decoracoes
Located in New York, NY
This armchair is made of solid Brazilian Rosewood, with new upholstery in gorgeous suede leather. The armrests have a rectangular design with a back of vertical slats. This model features a delicate and still well-constructed use of this precious wood, which became very scarce with the passage of the years.
This piece received new upholstery in soft nubuck leather, but its structure in solid Rosewood remais in original condition.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Celina Decorações factory imposed high-quality standards, maintaining handcrafted characteristics. The company was created in 1951 when Munis Zilberberg takes over the family business - a small upholstery workshop that worked on refurbishing sofa beds and antique furniture. The name is a tribute to her mother, Celina Zilberberg...
