About the Item

This rare easy chair was designed by Sven Staaf in the early 1950s. This particular model number 1765 was manufactured by Almgren & Staaf in Helsingborg, Sweden. The design is marked by the curved lines of the back rest and the rounded seat. The high back rest with three button details. Due to the slightly wing shaped back and sprung seat the chair is very comfortable to sit in. The tapered front legs and slightly outward bending back legs are in solid elm wood. The chair has been completely restored. The upholstery has been reconditioned and renewed in a Pierre Frey 'Arsene' linen fabric. This high quality fabric has a marled, irregular appearance and has hints of pale blue and muted green shades. The chair retains its original manufacturing labels on the interior frame, indicating the interior wooden frame and legs were produced by O. Bernströms Möbelfabrik in Åseda, including the production date 19 February 1953. Literature: Form Svenska Slöjdföreningens Tidskrift, 1954, advert for Staafs on page 118. Other Scandinavian designers working in the same period/style are Otto Schulz, Viggo Boesen, Carl Malmsten, Gosta Jonsson.
