Warren Platner Lounge Chair for Knoll International
About the Item
Designed by Warren Platner in 1966, the Platner Collection embodies the essence of the era's evolving design ethos, capturing the "decorative, gentle, graceful" forms that characterized the period. Platner ingeniously fused structural integrity with ornamental beauty by welding curved steel rods to circular frames, a technique that simultaneously served as both structure and adornment. Drawing on his tenure at Eero Saarinen and Associates, Platner's innovative approach to furniture design ushered in a new era of expressive modernism, seamlessly merging competing aesthetic paradigms of the time.
About Warren Planter
Born in Baltimore in 1919, Platner emerged as a pioneering furniture designer in the 1960s, notably hailing from the United States. Renowned for his transformative Platner Collection, he ingeniously melded steel wire into sculptural masterpieces, reshaping the landscape of modern design with his expressive yet functional creations.
