X Lounge Chair by Joachim Nees for Interprofil

About the Item

The highly awarded, sleek and functional X Chair by Joachim Nees for Interprofil, Germany. Silver painted metal frame with black leather upholstered seat and green fabric upholstered back rest. A special upholstery support in the lumbar region and the height-adjustable neck cushion make the x-chair a comfortable lounge chair. The x-chair has been awarded 2 design prizes: 1999 from the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen with the "Red Dot" design prize 2000 from the Industrieforum Design Hannover with the "IF Design Award" Joachim Nees actually wanted to become a civil engineer, being particularly interested in building bridges. But after he had completed his intermediate exams at the University of Darmstadt. Joachim Nees, who was born in Aschaffenburg, visited an exhibition on industrial design. Both the content and the exhibits made a lasting impression on him – and led to him changing his field of study. He enrolled on the Industrial Design course, and completed his studies with great success. So what is it in designing that so interests Joachim Nees? He attaches great importance to quality – of design as well as of materials. “And I am always delighted if a successful feature complements the content of a piece of furniture like a light-bulb moment,” says Joachim Nees. He has taken to heart the much-quoted phrase ‘form follows function’ – in fact, he has now adopted it as his philosophy. He is not interested in designs that indulge in flights of fancy; he wants to transform people’s requirements into furniture. He approaches ideas with a very relaxed and open attitude, driven by a strong sense of curiosity. His successes speak for themselves: well-known design prizes such as the Red Dot Design Award, the IF Design Award, the German Design Award and the Interior Innovation Award (Best of Best) provide the evidence. Joachim Nees always concentrates on the future user - the sole and constant focus of his creative work. Man is the measure of all things, not just ergonomic considerations.

3-Seater Maralunga Sofa by Vico Magistretti for Cassina
By Vico Magistretti, Cassina
Located in Grand Cayman, KY
Iconic Mid-Century Modern "Maralunga" 3-seater sofas / armchairs by Vico Magistretti for Cassina. This example features green-grey velvet with colored pattern. While the fabric holds strong, re-covering in new fabric is recommended. Head / backrests are adjustable for a cheeky look that never fails to turn heads in the living room. They are also extremely comfortable. The height of the sofa with fully extended headrest is 40 in (100 cm) and 30 in (71 cm) when fully compressed. It has been professionally laundered and is clean, however, the fabric remains discolored. Structurally sound in every respect and an excellent candidates for re-covering according to decorator's desire. While origin stories behind the world’s timeless designs vary widely, the story of the Maralunga sofa is one of the best in design lore: As legend has it, when Cassina founder Cesare Cassina first saw the prototype for the piece in the mid-1970s by Italian furniture designer Vico Magistretti (1920–2006), he was so disgusted by it that he punched it, breaking the back of the sofa, which crumbled over itself . . . into the shape the piece would eventually take. (“Right, great, it looks perfect to me like that,” Magistretti allegedly responded.) Whether it was his accidental adjustment or further consideration of the design, Cassina clearly came around: His company debuted Magistretti’s design in 1973. The Maralunga is characterized by what looks like a slumped backrest but is really an adjustable-height headrest, moved by way of a bicycle chain...
