About the Item

This family of minimalist objects, whose ancestor is Tato, emphasizes whatever is strongly visual and chromatic, without of course overlooking the functional. They are at their best in an informal house. You look at them with ease, you move them around with no difficulty, and find out how comfortably elastic seats are. Flexible seating in round shape for two or more seaters in flexible polyurethane, cold-processed without CFC, with internal rigid structure. Two lateral slits keep the removable cover in bi-elastic fabric, available in three types and several colours. Born in Campagnola near Reggio Emilia in 1950, Denis Santachiara started his career as a designer at the Fiat Style Centre in 1966. He makes hi-tech designer objects of great artistic density that he displays in solo and group shows in such prestigious locations as the 1980 Venice Biennale and the Grand Palais in Paris. The numerous exhibitions that he has organized include “La Neomerce” at the Triennale in Milan in 1985 and the Pompidou Centre in Paris. He also curated the “New Persona” display for the 1996/97 Florence Biennale. Santachiara has worked with Baleri Italia since 1995 and he is behind hugely successful ironic and poetic projects such as Mama, Tato and Celine. Born in Albino (BG) in 1942. In 1984, together with Marilisa Decimo, establishes Baleri Italia, working with international designers such as Dalisi, Hollein, Mendini, Starck and Wettstein. From 1989 to 1992, he is president of Casa Malaparte Association, to promote the conservation of this modern movement building on the island of Capri. In 1994 he sets up the Comitato Italiano AAlto/Viipuri to raise funds to restore the library building in Viipuri, Aalto’s masterpiece in Russian territory. In 2004 he creates eb&c, with Marilisa Decimo and Luigi Baroli, a research centre which cooperates with cerruti baleri and other companies in product design and development.

Island Large Pouf in Lario Blue Upholstery & Brass Base by Serena Confalonieri
By Serena Confalonieri
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Island is a collection made up of three poufs with organic forms that evoke the coast line lapped by the sea. This imagery is felt throughout the entire design, conjuring the enveloping movement of the tide which softens and shapes the shore. For this reason, the volumes are perceived differently depending on the perspective from which they are observed in a space. The base visually elevates the seat from the ground making it seem like it’s floating in space. Serena is an indipendent designer and art director based in Milano. She works on product, graphic and textile design projects and collaborates with many italian and international companies. Her works are placed in-between product and graphic design: an accurate research on the surfaces is always present in her projects. After a Master Degree in Interior Design, she started her career working in many architecture and design practices in Milano, Barcelona and Berlin, and collaborating with the Interior Design Faculty of Politecnico di Milano as assistant professor. In 2013 she makes her debut at Milano Design Week with her Flamingo rug...
