Modern Black Leather Modular Sectional Tappo Sofa by John Mascheroni for Vecta

About the Item

Handsome vintage Modern black leather 6-piece modular sectional Tappo sofa by John Mascheroni for Vecta Contract. It retains its original tags. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, all of the leather has been cleaned & reconditioned but there is a small poke or indention (not a hole) on one back, a couple of seats have some crazing in the leather, & the leather shows signs of age-related use in places. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, Design 1973. Production, 1986. Is there anything more BEAUTIFUL than black leather?? Well, actually… NO!! ESPECIALLY when it’s wrapped around an INCREDIBLE vintage modular sectional Tappo sofa by John Mascheroni for Vecta!!! That’s right!!!!! This is a wonderful black leather modular sectional Tappo sofa by John Mascheroni for Vecta Contract composed of 6 pieces including 2 wedges and 4 straight pieces. We have photographed it in a couple of different setups ideal for a fantastic seating situation in your living or family room, sitting area, or maybe your entertainment room. Group it with a gorgeous chaise lounge, marvelous coffee table, a gorgeous pair of end tables, a fabulous accent or side table, or all the above!!! Comfort, versatility, spectacular style, and it’s BURSTING with an unmeasurable Modern MAGNIFICENCE you are sure to ADORE for years to come!!! John Mascheroni was born in 1932 and has been designing furniture since he began his working career. He studied Industrial Design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and he worked at his father’s furniture factory where he learned to create reproductions of European antiques. Eventually he opened his own design practice with a showroom in New York’s elite D & D Building. He had many influences over the years including Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobson, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Mies van der Rohe, & Jean-Michel Frank but stated that he was most influenced by Charles & Ray Eames & George Nelson and their awareness of the human body and the ability to design furnishings ergonomically appropriate. His famed 1966 design of the “Tubo Table” is in a collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Today he is a spirited 90 years old and has been working with Lazar Furniture for the last few years and he retains his passion, energy and commitment to design. Vecta Contract Inc. was founded in 1959 in Grand Prairie, TX under the Tartan name. It was a result of Brunswick Corporation divesting its School Division and Burk-Action Division. Vecta focused on architectural furnishings (e.g. lobbies, lounges, conference rooms for universities, hospitals, and other public buildings). The Company was acquired by Steelcase Inc. in 1978. – Information acquired by Steelcase Heritage. Elite designer & maker, incomparable style, superb comfort, and unlimited style functions!!! Mid-Century Modern Black Faux Leather Love Seat Sofa by Taylor Chair Co. Style D
By Harvey Probber, Dunbar Furniture, Edward Wormley, Taylor Chair co.
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome Mid-Century Modern love seat length sofa in black vinyl faux leather upholstery and walnut base in the style of Wormley for Dunbar or Harvey Probber. It is in wonderful vintage condition. We believe the black vinyl to be fairly new. The walnut base does have age appropriate little nicks and dings. Please see photos, circa 1960s. It is hard to say who designed and produced this fabulously gorgeous and simple streamline Mid-Century Modern style sofa first. Was is Edward Wormley for Dunbar? Was it Harvey Probber or Florence Knoll? Or, did Taylor Chair Company, the maker of this particular love seat, actually make their rendition first? Does it matter? You will love the lines and materials used in this two-seat love seat Lawson shape sofa with a tight back and two loose seat cushions. It is covered in a very nice and natural looking black faux leather vinyl. So close to the real thing its is hard to tell the difference. And sets on a walnut Parsons’ style base. Simple but very handsome. Taylor Chair Company was founded by Benjamin Fitch in 1816 Bedford, Ohio. He originally made split-bottom chairs in his cabin. In 1841 one of Mr. Fitch’s employees, William O. Taylor, married Mr. Fitch’s daughter. William quickly took over active management of the company and by late 1940s the company became known as W.O. Taylor Factory. After a fire in the original location the factory moved. In 1871 W.O. Taylor’s son, Vincent A. Taylor, took the helm and the name was changed to W.O. Taylor and Son as they became an award-winning company. In 1885 the company incorporated becoming a public company known as The Taylor Chair...
