Pair Of Italian 18th Century Louis XV Period Polychrome And Gilt Settees

About the Item

A very unique and finely detailed pair of Italian 18th century Louis XV period Polychrome and Gilt settees, from Venice. Each settee is raised by six cabriole legs with gilt scrolled decorations at the top and bottom while supported by block feet. The aprons are decorated with similar gilt accents and are centered by a single leg displaying beautifully scrolling patterns accented with Gilt. Both arbalest shaped side aprons have gilt edges that extend down the legs on either side. Above each side apron is the base of the square polychrome armrest that contains additional scrolling gilded patterns leading up to the rounded hand rest above. The armrest leads to the scalloped back rest with gilt mottled edges and a richly carved palmette central reserve along the top. Each settee is upholstered in a bold cafe colored leather.
