pair of Roman 18th century Louis XVI Period Giltwood settees

About the Item

A stately and most decorative pair of Roman 18th century Louis XVI Period Giltwood settees. This wonderful pair of settees is raised by eight Giltwood toupie shaped feet with a foliate collars leading up to tapered fluted legs capped with square blocks adorned with rosettes. Each settee's seating frame is centered in the front by a rectangular panel featuring a hand carved oak leaf garland below the generously upholstered seat cushion. The octagonal upholstered backrest is framed in Giltwood and supports two scrolled arms held by tapered and fluted supports with foliate collars. The backrest of each settee is decorated at the top by round medallions displaying the profiles of Roman emperors on a faux painted imperial Porphyry background. Available with matching armchairs item# 14392, sold separately.
