About the Item

American turtle back, Hitchcock type, rush seat side chair. The back splat features the original gilt and bronze powder stencil decoration of an ornate pedistal base bowl holding fruit and surrounded by leaves. Gilt decorations on the back supports, front rail, and tops of the turned front legs have faded over time. American, Upper Connecticut Valley, circa 1820-30. Dimensions: 17-1/4” W x 19-1/2” D x 34-1/4” H 18” (seat height) 15” (seat depth)
