American Mahogany and Figured Mahogany Veneered Gondola Chair, Circa 1815- 1830s
About the Item
A Restored American mahogany and figured mahogany veneered gondola chair. The chair feature a boxed slip seat & single vertical baluster form silhouette back splat below a crest rail. The back is defined by a continuous bull nose molding encompassing the side rails and it follows across the upper rim of the crest rail. The front legs are pseudo sabered with raked rear legs. This design is listed in "The New York Book of Prices for Manufacturing Cabinet and Chair Work" from the New York Society of Cabinet Makers (J. Seymour, 1817).
