Italian Mario Ceroli Fratina Chair from the 1960s
About the Item
A dramatic and sculptural ‘Fratina’ chair by Mario Ceroli, crafted in Italy in the 1960s. Made entirely from solid pine, the chair features bold, architectural lines and a towering backrest, blending the aesthetic of medieval ecclesiastical furniture with a distinctly modernist sensibility.
Ceroli, an acclaimed Italian sculptor and designer, was known for his use of raw wood and for blurring the boundaries between art and furniture. A leading figure in Italy’s Arte Povera movement, he often treated furniture as an extension of sculpture — and the Fratina chair is a striking example of that approach.
Highly collectible and full of presence, this piece functions as both a seat and a statement work of art.
