Magnificent and ultra rare Art Deco Modernist high back side chair. Design by Hendrik Wouda for H. Pander & Zonen The Hague. Striking Dutch design from the 1920s. Solid mahogany frame with the high back which is typical for several designs of chairs by Hendrik Wouda! Re-upholstered with black Manchester corduroy fabric. Marked with original manufacturers metal tag and stamped company name. In very good condition with a beautiful patina. The Modernist look of this wonderful Art Deco high back chair by Hendrik Wouda is also known in the Netherlands under the name Haagse School. The Haagse School was inspired by the designs of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The famous Art Magazine Wending published a series of articles on Frank Lloyd Wright in 1925. Well known architects of the Haagse School are Hendrik Wouda, Jan Wils, Frits Spanjaard, Cor Alons and Jan Brunott.
