About the Item

These chairs are after a model and drawings by Thomas Hope, the famous neoclassic designer of the late 18th and early 19th century England. One of his chairs you can find at the V&A website, another model is homed at the Chicago Art Museum. Both these chairs are more detailed and refined compared to the models offered here. However the design is clearly taken from the Thomas Hope Models. Thomas Hope published his sketches of furniture in a Folio volume, titled " Household Furniture and Interior Decoration in 1807. His publication had considerable influence and brought about a change in the upholstery and interior decoration of houses of that period. The pseudo-classical manner was generally called "English Empire". The chairs offered, interpret the design by Thomas Hope in a very stylish way.
