About the Item

Incredible Female Tiki chair attributed to Witco with its iconic chainsaw carved pair of Tiki females and the original sky-blue velvet upholstery. This chair is in awesome vintage condition. The paint and stain are bold and bright, and the upholstery is perfect. The nose on the female on the right as you look at the chair may be missing the very tip, but we can’t tell if it was from the beginning or not. Please see photos, circa 1960s-1970s. Holy Tiki Bar Batman!!! This Female Tiki Chair attributed to Witco and designed by William Westenhaver is sure to be the center of attraction in any room. It is such a wonderful piece of art it could be displayed as such. Comprised of two female Tiki figures with their backs together facing outward at an angle to form the back of the chair which reaches to the floor. The seat is attached at just the right spot to form a lap for you to be seated and the front leg is a Tiki mask face. These Witco pieces were individually chainsaw carved out of red cedar. The finish is a dark walnut stain and the details enhanced with bright coloration. This chair is in exceptionally good condition with the colors still bright and beautiful and the sky-blue velvet upholstery perfect. In our research we discovered an online photo of this chair depicted in a 1968 Witco catalog along with other photos of this style Witco chair being used in famous Tiki Bars and Lounges around the US when Tiki style took the world by storm, and Elvis decorated his famed Jungle Room at Graceland with Tiki furniture and décor from Witco. At the request of his cousin, Bob Post, William Westenhaver joined Witco, originally Western International Trading Company, in 1957 and in 1977 Witco closed its doors for the last time; but, not without leaving a unique and indelible mark on mid-20th century design. You need to make this rare and wonderful sculptural chair your own! No Luau is complete without a proper set of fire tools. This ultra rare Witco fireplace tool set comes complete with a poker, brush, and shovel. The three wrought-iron tools are original to the set. Both the poker and shovel feature period scroll work on top. Most distinctive are the Brutalist accents flanking the left and right sides. These torch-cut Brutalist panels have been restored to their original look. This piece came to us rusted. Our restoration team refinished the metal, and re-created the the verdigris patina originally present. Witco’s signature chainsaw tiki carving was used to embellish the rack’s top and base. Vintage 1960s-1970s, carved from solid swamp cedar wood. If you’re into Tiki, then you probably know Witco. Collector’s adore Witco for it’s wild design. The company went full-force in capturing the zeitgeist of exotica in the 1960s. Polynesian, Asian, and tropical culture and aesthetics began to make their way into American homes. Elvis movies and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” introduced America to tiki, Mai Tais and Luas. It’s still tiki time in the hearts of Witco collectors.
