1970s Mid Century Modern Red Velvet Three Seater Plinth Base Sofa

About the Item

Very exciting and quite rare 1970s three-seater sofa in the manner of Adrian Pearsall for the Strictly Spanish line. The sculptural shape, tufted arms and detailed, carved plinth base and trim are very unique, and the piece makes quite the statement piece! This is not your regular boring sofa, it is quite stunning! We also have the matching chair, sold separately. The woodwork is meticulously hand carved, original and gorgeous. The upholstery throughout the frame is in good used condition, all original. As pictured, the zipper on the seat cushion will need to be mended, and the upholstery and this seat could either be re-buttoned to maintain period look or be updated. Dimensions: Width: 96.46" / 245cm Height: 27.56" / 70cm Depth: 33.46" / 85cm Seat Height: 15.75" / 40 cm CONDITION NOTES Very good vintage condition. Age appropriate wear and tear. Looks great. Fantastic period piece!! The woodwork is meticulously hand carved, original and gorgeous with small imperfections. The upholstery throughout the frame is in good used condition, all original. The RMIC hand chair made its first appearance around the year 1970. The spectacular chair is made of plastic and shaped like a giant hand with its palm turned upward, while the fingers serve as a backrest. Originally, the hand chair was designed in 1962 by Pedro Friedeberg, a then 24 years old surrealist artist.
