About the Item

A huge 19th century 'Crescent' shaped country house chesterfield sofa by Howard & Sons - London c1860. Raised on 6 short walnut legs with 3 turned front legs and 3 splayed rear legs. The back middle leg stamped with the the serial number 13064-6373 and all the legs retaining the original Howard and sons stamped casters. This low and sleek sofa retains its original buttoned back innards which are intact and comfortable. The seat is a more recent replacement and does require some tlc which will be done when the upholstery is being carried out. The frame is structurally sound however due to the sofas shape and sheer size it does have a little flex when lifted which is to be expected from a frame of this size which does sit firm when grounded. For upholstery. As with all our upholstered seating we do offer upholstery should you wish. This sofa was originally covered in Howards blue and white monogram cotton lining with a small fragment still visible on the frame. We can supply a reproduction of this cotton fabric or we can supply a harder wearing reproduction natural organic linen. You can of course supply your own choice of fabric. 32cm seat height Maximum sofa depth from the middle of the outside back to the front of the arms 125cm
