“I-Beam Couch” Steel, Oxidized Maple and Lacquered Aluminum I-Beam Modern Couch

About the Item
The "I-beam Couch", has got some big personality. Perfectly emphasized by the custom lacquered aluminum I - beam penetrating a hand turned oxidized maple foot, this piece is completely individual in its design. Intended to be a show stopper the I-beam couch would be a feature piece in any home, office, gallery and hospitality space. Evan drew upon all of his influences during its conception, the beam couch is a blend of Mid-Century modern, industrial arts and neo-brutalisim. He goes on to say, "Honestly, I had very little control over the design, the forms really materialized in my brain all by themselves. All I could do was try to stay as true to my original vision as possible. I knew that if I could do that, the I-beam couch would truly live on its own after I finished crafting it". The features are of coarse fully customizable, each owner can select materials and finishes that speak to them in the same way the I-beam couch spoke to its creator.

Evan Z. Crane
Evan Z. Crane is a Brooklyn born designer and manufacturer of bespoke sculptural furnishings. Growing up in south Brooklyn the industrial landscape had a profound effect on him. The stark geometry of his surroundings were deeply inspiring throughout his childhood and early creative career. Drawing upon that inspiration to fuel his vision, he creates not just furniture but obsessively designed objects imbued with personality. Every aspect of a piece is derived from a vision that cannot be reasoned with. Evan will reject redesigns and revisions, always striving for the original conception. In his heart Evan believes that if he stays true to his vision, the work will not only speak for itself, but live on with its own personality, long after it has left his workshop. Still Fully immersed in the industrial landscape he produces work from his studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and resides in Gowanus Brooklyn with his wife and daughter.

One of the first modular club chairs with a puzzle like cushion connection creating a pivotal look. Provenance : Jerome Schottenstein Estate, Columbus Ohio. Jerome was was an American entrepreneur and philanthropist, co-founder of Schottenstein Stores Corp. The Schottenstein family were Lithuanian immigrants who began an extensive business empire in the late 19th Century. It also holds an ownership interest in American Eagle Outfitters, Wehmeyer in Germany, Cold Stone Creamery and The Mazel Company. Since 1950, Saporiti Italia produces some of the most sophisticated and advanced pieces of furniture of the history of Italian design. There is a leit motiv in all the company's creations: each new piece is history in itself. Catching time off balance and anticipating the future are both the challenge and the vocation of Saporiti Italia. Each item created and constructed by the company is slightly ahead of its time and it is destined to last, both in form and function, until the next era. The company, founded in 1950 by Mr. Sergio Saporiti and still under control of the Saporiti family, has contributed to the creation of milestones in the history of Italian design. During these decades of fast growing economy and fast changing social environment, Saporiti Italia set its particular international and avant-garde style. The first pieces of furniture of the Saporiti of the times were clearly influenced by emerging Scandinavian design, but with a special touch of Italian elegance in the use of finishing and materials. In 1965 Sergio Saporiti started a fruitful and “scientific” collaboration with one of the masters of Italian architecture and design of all times: Alberto Rosselli. Together they created a series of pieces of furniture – the Jumbo chair...Category
