About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning exceptionally rare large original early Victorian tobacco brown leather fully restored Chesterfield buttoned sofa. This is a very rare model, it has the shorter seat platform but large ornately carved solid Redwood legs. It is the perfect oversized club model, the frame is coil sprung to the arms and back, the base was restored at some point to have serpentine springs with feather padding for support, the padding everywhere else is all horse hair which was the finest wadding of its day, you can tell because it crunches everywhere. The original Chesterfield sofas are pretty much the only Chesterfields that are actually comfortable, all others are hard on your lower back, this is sprung as mentioned so offers a wonderful seat. The sofa has been fully restored as you can see, the leather had naturally faded back to the plain colour of the hide, its been hand dyed to this lovely tobacco brown colour by my leather polishers, the redwood legs have been lightly stained and polished, the base has been rewebbed and you have a new hessian cover fitted, simply put this sofa is the finest example you will find anywhere today. Dimensions: Height 83.5 cm Width 238 cm Depth 100 cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
