Wonderful antique Ashanti stool, from Ghana, West Africa.
This piece dates from the 19th Century and has developed a wonderful mellow colour and patina over time.
Female stool, thought to contain the soul of owner who sat on it.
Wonderful carving and detail to the uprights of the stool, the colour developed over the years enhances the aesthetic of the piece.
In good over all condition, there is small loss to the corner of the top seat as can be seen in the photos, there is also a split to the wood on two of the uprights where the wood has dried over time. This does not affect the stability of the piece.
