Inspiration:
''During the pandemic I felt the need to get closer to Nature, just like when I was a child. I used to frequently venture into the woods and forests, and felt safe, surrounded and protected. I used to lose track of time and I remember I loved to touch the earth and feel the textures of the trees. I think we've all gone through this and felt the same way.
As a designer, I felt the need to create a piece that would take me back to those moments and make me feel again nature’s wonderful textures. I love the final result: simple, elegant, completely covered with natural textures and a look perfect for art gallery decoration. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Touching it is even better.'' In 2013, the Portuguese designer João Bessa founded Bessa, an Art and Design brand that creates functional art pieces (furniture and lighting) based on true stories. The Gallery stool. A sculptural modern organic side table/stool turned from a solid block of macrocarpa (Monterey Cypress). The wood is finished with a hand rubbed, low V.O.C., natural plant oils to bring the stunning grain to life.
The macrocarpa wood will continue to dry out as it finds its equilibrium moisture content of its new environment. Further movement and splits should be expected, and this is part of the wabi-sabi design of the Gallery side tables.
