About the Item

A gorgeous, extremely impressive and very rare, ornately carved large Windsor armchair in wonderful antique condition. Likely made in England in the early 20th Century, this stunningly impressive oak armchair will add beautiful colouring and a fabulously decorative statement of traditional bygone grandeur to any interior. Made to impress, this large, reassuringly heavy and fabulously decorative armchair was elaborately carved from wonderful quality oak wood showing lovely grain patterning and rich hues ranging from chocolate brown to ruddy golden. Made in the Windsor chair fashion with the arms and legs fitting into the seat, it shows wonderful craftsmanship, is particularly rare in displaying such sumptuously decorative carving throughout and is unusually large, having a generously sized seat and tall and broad ‘fan’ back. Particularly eye-catching are the beautifully carved, shapely crest rail and ‘barley twist’ back supports with matching front stretcher. It has charmingly turned Arts & Crafts style fan-back spindles with complementing arm supports, while the remaining stretchers and sturdy legs are intricately turned, and the large seat has lovely carved detailing. All in all this is a stunning, extremely impressive and rare Windsor armchair, which will be a knockout in any setting and would suit a cosy fireside snug as much as the grandest of rooms. CONDITION This is in very good condition. Structurally sound, reassuringly heavy and beautifully crafted, it has only the most minor to-be-expected marks to show its age, which only add to its antique appeal and charm, and an historic, hard-to-notice repair to one of the back spindles. It has a brass pull to the rear of the crest rail and foot pads for ease of moving due to the weight of the chair. Overall it’s a fabulous rare oak armchair and if well looked after it should be just as breath-taking for many generations to come – please see the photos. MEASUREMENTS Height - 116cm, Width - 71cm, Depth - 65cm, Seat Height - 44cm, Seat Width - 45cm, Seat Depth - 48cm, Weight - 12.5kg.
