About the Item
An impressively sized, rare and strikingly attractive blonde Victorian Farmhouse style Windsor armchair in lovely vintage condition. Likely made in America in the mid-to-late 20th Century or possibly earlier, this generously sized Windsor will add lovely light colouring, super comfort and a fabulous, traditional rustic-farmhouse aesthetic to any room.
Made in the Victorian English Farmhouse style of lath-back or slat-back Windsor chairs but with larger, more modern proportions, this super armchair was crafted from light blonde American Elm and has a standout, richly hued top crest rail of Red Elm. Sometimes referred to as Grandfather chairs, this stunning armchair makes an ideal fireside companion and will be a knockout in terms of both looks and comfort.
It has a large saddle-shaped carved seat into which, as with all Windsor chairs, the upper and lower parts fit. It features a statuesque, impressively tall and broad back of flattened and curved ‘lath’ or ‘slat’ spindles, which are contoured to the shape of the back and flanked by a pair of tapering back supports with charming turned upper detailing, which support a substantial and shapely, carved crest rail of lovely red elm.
The attractive and sturdy turned legs are secured by a turned double-H-stretcher for extra stability and the shapely, carved arms are supported by attractively turned arm supports, with all the lovely spindles, stretchers and supports casting a super silhouette, which can be appreciated from any angle.
All in all this is a super, generously sized and very comfortable Windsor armchair, which won’t fail to enhance any setting with its beautiful blonde colouring and traditional farmhouse styling.
CONDITION
This is in very good vintage condition. Impressively sized, reassuringly heavy and structurally sound, it has only minor to-be-expected signs of its age, which only add to its rustic farmhouse vintage appeal. Overall this is a wonderful and sizeable armchair in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after, it should be just as breath-taking and usable for generations to come – please see the photos.
