About the Item

Elegant pair of French Louis XVI gold and off white giltwood wingback armchairs or bergere chairs from the 19th Century, both with high end new upholstery. The framework with arched seatback topped with flowers and foliates carved right into the frame itself, with ribbon trim also carved right into the molding appearing throughout. On the face of the upright framework appears a laurel motif, while spiral ribbon and acanthus plumes adorn the armrest face. Below the armrests, the frame features rosettes, more laurels, and tapered and fluted legs for the classic French Louis XVI look, all carved from solid walnut. Found in the South of France in Provence. H seat 20” x H arm 24.25”#6008
