About the Item

A stunning 19th century Moroccan dowry chest hand-carved from solid cedar wood, featuring a richly detailed facade of Moorish horseshoe arches and geometric patterning throughout. This architectural piece showcases traditional North African craftsmanship with intricate incised motifs, original hand-wrought iron hardware, and traces of original blue pigment highlighting the carvings. The chest’s front and sides are adorned with rhythmic arches and hand-punched dot work, echoing Islamic architectural elements. Raised on block legs, the chest opens to reveal a spacious interior with a compartment divider. Weathered patina and signs of age add authenticity and character. Ideal as a statement piece at the foot of a bed, entryway storage, or as a low coffee table in a collected interior.
