Bookshelf with Rosewood Veneers by Brazilian company Celina Decorações, 1960s
About the Item
Produced in the 1960s by Celina Decorações, this Rosewood bookshelf has a robust and elaborate structure. Built with four columns, two drawer modules, and one cabinet module, it can accommodate up to fifteen shelves. Each column is made of two large pieces connected at the edges by small wooden cubes and has multiple holes, allowing the shelves to be arranged as desired.
Founded in 1938 in Rio de Janeiro, Celina Decorações became a cornerstone of Brazilian modernist furniture design under Munis Zilberberg’s leadership. The company gained national prominence by blending industrial production with artisanal craftsmanship. Zilberberg’s innovative contributions to A Cigarra magazine elevated Celina’s influence, using the platform to offer interior design advice and showcase aspirational settings. This approach democratized modern aesthetics while cementing Celina Decorações’ role as a trailblazer in Brazilian design culture.
The bookshelf is entirely covered in rosewood veneers, and all have been fully restored.

Vintage Rosewood Armchair by Celina Decorações, Brazilian Midcentury, 1960s
By Celina Decoracoes
Located in New York, NY
This armchair is made of solid Brazilian Rosewood, with new upholstery in gorgeous suede leather. The armrests have a rectangular design with a back of vertical slats. This model features a delicate and still well-constructed use of this precious wood, which became very scarce with the passage of the years.
This piece received new upholstery in soft nubuck leather, but its structure in solid Rosewood remais in original condition.
Based in Rio de Janeiro, the Celina Decorações factory imposed high-quality standards, maintaining handcrafted characteristics. The company was created in 1951 when Munis Zilberberg takes over the family business - a small upholstery workshop that worked on refurbishing sofa beds and antique furniture. The name is a tribute to her mother, Celina Zilberberg...
