Mid-19th Century French Louis XIII Heavily Carved Oak Secretary Bookcase Desk

About the Item

Decorate a man's office or study this this stunning Henri II two-piece antique desk cabinet. Crafted in southern France circa 1860 and built of oak, the table stands on elegant barley twist legs ending in ball feet, and joined by a bottom H stretcher surmounted with decorative central finial. The table with scalloped apron, features a large carved drawer across the front with lions' masks with captured brass rings in the corners, and embellished with carved cherub handle and leaf decor. The top cabinet features an egg-and-dart molded crown cornice decorated with lion head figures and putto playing the lute. It has a large single door dressed with the original wavy glazed glass. The door frame is decorated with carved floral pendants, putti holding fruit baskets, and religious figures including St Peter holding the keys of heaven. The inside is dressed with three removable shelves for ultimate display. The multi function writing table, bookcase is in excellent condition with a rich patinated finish. Key included. Measures: 42.25" W x 25.25" D x 82" H.
