Model "Välipala" shelf system, designed by Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs, manufactured by Huonekaluliike Mikko Nupponen, 1950/1960s. Teak base with black and white painted wood elements. Marked. Good vintage condition, minor patina and wear consistent with age and use. Iconic Hiort af Ornäs design.
Carl-Gustaf Vilhelm "Nalle" Hiort af Ornäs was an internationally renowned Finnish furniture designer who became famous in the 1950s/1960s for his armchairs "Siesta" and "Rialto" and other living room furniture such as "Välipala" shelf system and "Näyttely" cabinet. Ornäs ran his own furniture factory, Puunveisto, in Helsinki from the 1940s until the 1970s. His furniture was exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1957.
