A magnificent rare, large and most impressive 19th century Gothic Revival hand carved painted parcel gilt bibliothèque (bookcase - buffet sideboard - china cabinet hutch - vitrine) Exquisitely handcrafted in France, circa 1840, almost certainly Parisian ébéniste work, its bold dramatic appearance, timeless romantic elegance, and grand imposing silhouette have the ability to evoke complex emotions! Massive monumental size, showcasing fine quality craftsmanship, intricate highly skilled handcarved ornamentation, and well made pine solid wood construction, exceptionally executed in visually striking Victorian era Neo-Gothic taste, influenced by the highly decorative Catholic churches and Cathedrals, Middle Ages ecclesiastical architecture, centuries old Medieval era castles, grand halls, palatial palaces, and royal court furniture. Two-piece stepback design, with profusely carved decoration, brillant gold gilding and soft light airy pale green hued polychrome with grayish / slate undertones, the bookshelf upper section having a stepped molding cornice with projecting canted corners and abundant floral carvings, over a pair of distinctive sculptural pointed ogival arch framed doors, retaining their original glazed glass panels that both display what's inside as well as protects items from dust and moisture, opening to an oversized shelved interior, flanked by richly gilded trailing fiolate reliefs, atop a stepback cupboard lower with rounded corner shaped case, fitted with a single large drawer, over two doors embellished in intricate tracery and medallion motifs, opening to reveal spacious cupboard affixed with shelving and adding to the abundance of storage space, the exterior accented with simple lancet arch elongated window form trim emphasizing verticality and decadent sculpted fiolated giltwood carvings enhancing the lustrous warm luxurious presence and depth, all raised on integral contoured molded base. A fine quality antique French credence cupboard by Eugene Dienst & Fils (active circa 1870-1900) Late 19th century, France, St. Faubourg Saint-Antoine region of Paris, at the time a legendary district renowned for the shops of some of the finest ébénistes (cabinetmakers) in all the world. This remarkable Parisian credence cupboard (dining buffet - sideboard - credenza, originally used for the storing and displaying of plates and for serving at banquets), circa 1880, showcases excellent quality craftsmanship, hand-crafted solid oak construction and profuse hand carved ornamentation, exceptionally executed in medieval Gothic inspired Renaissance era style, one-piece design, having a stepped cornice over dual cabinet doors, each with central portrait plaque among foliated scrollwork arabesques in low and high relief adding distinct three-dimensional qualities, warmth and rich depth. The doors opening to a shelved interior storage compartment, above a single dovetailed drawer with relief shell-form handle. Turned drop-finials flank ornate turned bluster-form column supports adorned in intricate acanthus carvings, rising on a conforming hexagonal platform base where the flowing scrolling foliate carvings continue over stepped molding, having large lower open display shelf against paneled backplate, further rising on sculpted tapering feet.
