17th Century Bleached Oak Jacobean Server/Sideboard

About the Item

Bleached period Jacobean Server made with oak in England in the early to mid 1600s. This is an absolutely stunning piece, that was built to last. Do not be fooled by its somewhat small measurements; this piece is like a pitbull puppy, tiny but dense! This is one of the true signs of really old antiques, boy those carpenters did not skim on how much wood they used or how thick those boards were. The server shows a three over two composition, where the side drawers are larger than the middle one, and the middle bottom panel does not open. All the drawer are inset, and the fronts are decorated with geometric patterns made with molding. The three bottom panels are inset and also decorated by molding. The top features two boards with ogee edge and some repairs can be seen, although they are all very well done and done over the centuries. The back is made with thick, chamfered boards and this, too, received tlc over the many years of use. This is a gorgeous period piece that has been used for many centuries and each repair, scratch or imperfection adds to its beautiful character. Because of its proportions, its beautiful alabaster color, and its' simple, yet ornate, appearance this sideboard will look gorgeous in any room regardless of he type of furniture already present.

  • 18th Century Bleached Walnut Italian Credenza, Buffet, Sideboard
    Located in Carmine, TX
Walnut credenza handcrafted in Italy in the mid 1700s and bleached recently. Don't let its delicate overall appearance fool you because, as my lower back can attest, this baby is heavy. This is a beautiful credenza that follow the typical italian style with slanted sides, which create small triangular storage spaces on either sides of the two main front doors and drawer. Overall the credenza is very straight in lines. The drawers have flat overlay fronts, and the doors show chamfered panels with a raised carving and are framed by flat molding. The carving and molding help giving the piece some depth and decoration. The bleaching process also provided the credenza with additional warmth, depth and decoration, by bringing out the beautiful grain and underlying colors of the wood. The top of the credenza is composed of boards with ogee edge nailed to the main case. On the inside the credenza is very spacious, providing plenty of storage space. Overall this is a beautiful piece that has lived a long life, and has received some help in "hanging in there" over the years. This is a piece that will fit well with both modern and...

The buffet features 3 drawers over three doors, all decorated with beautiful carving and raised panels throughout. The drawers show beautiful hand-made dovetailed joints and the back itself is a work of art. The buffet is still sitting on its original carved feet and shows a scalloped and carved apron, and is finished with simple, original hardware. This piece was hand-selected because of its beautiful proportions, carvings and overall color. The bleaching process shows much of the natural grain of the wood but it also highlights the human-made carvings, creating a beautiful combination of natural and human designs...

  • Jacobean Style Stool with Gold and Blue Damask Fabric
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
This charming stool dates from the late 19th century and is in the Jacobean style of the 17th century. The wood looks to be walnut and has been professionally restored and the upholstery fabric is a woven damask with a light blue background and floral motifs in tones of gold and honey. The antique brass nail-heads have a floral motif which compliments the small floral blooms in the fabric. FYI: The Jacobean Era. The Jacobean era is named afer King James I who ruled from 1603 until 1625. James 1 belonged to the Stuart family as did his son and successor King Charles I reigning from 1625 until 1649. The term Jacobean era furniture is used here to refer to the period of both kings. The Jacobean, or Jacobethan, era was another phase of English Renaissance architecture, theatre, and decoration and formed a continuation, begun in the Elizabethan age, of the the Renaissance's penetration into England. Jacobean style furniture, early. The early Jacobean furniture period, which inspired much of the early American furniture of the pilgrims (in America Jacobean...
