About the Item

Muller Van Severen Buffet Manufactured by Muller Van Severen Barcelona, 2019 Lacquered steel Produced for Side Gallery, Barcelona Measurements: 200 cm x 50 x 90 H cm 78.74 in x 19.68 in x 35.43 H in Edition Limited edition of 7 + 1AP Biography Visual artists Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen make their debut as designer duo Muller Van Severen in 2011. The duo explores the boundaries between art and design in a contemporary and innovative way and adopts an inventive, imaginative approach to functionality. They are constantly looking for new ways to make furniture more interesting from a sculptural point of view, without losing track of its functionality. They succeed wonderfully in adding a very personal, fresh new touch to major historical art and design movements. Their oeuvre is characterized by an exciting tension between austerity and extravagance, lightness and heaviness, severity and playfulness, delicacy and sturdiness. Their fascination for materials, their sense of color and proportions, their af nity with architectural space and their focus on the sculptural form all help create a fascinating universe. They eagerly follow their own path and experiment with new ways of using furniture, averse to fashions and trends, thus designing unique functional landscapes for living, permeated by poetry, imagination and aesthetics.

Bridges Large Green by Muller Van Severen for BD Barcelona
By Muller Van Severen
Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Bridges Large by Muller Van Severen for BD Barcelona Bridges is a collection of cabinets designed by Muller Van Severen. MVS developed the cabinets from their series of ‘Wave’ vases. The vase silhouettes were brought into handmade cabinets with unique cutout bases that transcend function. Their refined colours and glossy finishes emphasise structure, standing out with a sculptural beauty. Alone or as a whole, the Bridges cabinets create a colourful architecture that is vibrant and spacious and, of course, full of personality. Materials: Containers, shelves and doors are made of MDF and gloss lacquered in four different colors; NCS 3060-B90G (Green), NCS 3560-Y80R (Red), NCS 7020-R80B (Blue), NCS 8010-R10B (Aubergine). The interiors are always laquered in matt finish. 5mm glass top painted in the same color of the cabinet is optional. Back part ofthe cabinet painted in matte is optional. Regulation glides are included in order to fit the different floors. The doors have steel hiden hinges finished in titanium, installed with an automatic pulse opening spring system. In addition this large option had and extra accesory: the coat bar for clothes. They are both artists, and their work showcases their appreciation of the natural beauty of materials and how materials can speak for themselves. Working between design and art, the couple has always been on an inspired quest for sculpturally interesting design objects and furniture. Their creations are globally identified in both private homes and public spaces. All of Muller Van Severens own production pieces are handmade by small-scale fabricators and skilled artisans, with an honesty to the rawness and irregularity of the chosen material. Their work is characterized by careful research into their shared passion for art, architecture and materials, yet their designs appear to be created almost intuitively and with total effortlessness. About the manufacturer: BD has been around for over half a century. It was founded in a nightclub in 1972 by a bunch of young architects and designers from Barcelona. They broke into the design world with a new vision: to produce and market their designs, and the designs of their friends with complete creative freedom and design criteria. Beginning with the designs of contemporaries like Ettore Sottsass, Rennie Mackintosh and Álvaro Siza, BD provoked a curiosity about design. These early pieces helped bring international recognition to the country’s design scene, and many of them still exist today. They are an international design company run by a collective ownership —Apartamento Magazine...
