About the Item
Commanding in proportion yet intricate in detail, this Spanish sideboard is an ode to vernacular grandeur. The front elevation is composed of deeply carved panels in geometric relief—each blocklike form casting subtle shadows that animate the oak’s golden grain. Its surface is alive with quiet pattern, its rhythm grounded by a scalloped apron and weighty bracket feet.
Attributed to a regional Castilian workshop in the spirit of the Spanish Revival, this piece distills the monumentality of 17th-century armarios into a more domestic scale. The design blends formal rigor with hand-wrought imperfection—a legacy of ancestral craftsmanship carried into the early 20th century.
Three doors open to spacious interior compartments, framed by a single central drawer with an iron drop pull shaped like a stylized Moorish key. Wrought iron strap hinges and escutcheons accentuate each door, their floral terminals and twisted stems offering a decorative counterpoint to the linear carpentry. The top features a parquetry-like layout of subtly offset oak squares, evidence of the cabinetmaker’s precision.
Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina.
Architectural and substantial, this sideboard anchors a space with rustic nobility—at once functional and sculptural.
Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
