About the Item
A rhythmic play of shadow and surface animates this modest yet architectonic console cabinet, hewn from solid elm and raised on a stretchered base. The façade is articulated with deep, geometric relief carving—sunken panels nested within frames—recalling the austere beauty of Castilian cabinetry from the Spanish Renaissance, abstracted here in a 20th-century vernacular.
Attributed to a provincial workshop in the spirit of Spanish Revival, this piece reflects the enduring influence of 17th-century Iberian design, reimagined through the pared-back lens of the 1940s. Its structural clarity and handcrafted ornament convey a quiet mastery rooted in regional tradition.
The body features two small drawers below a pair of paneled doors, opening to a single interior cavity. The ironwork—hinges, escutcheons, and drop pulls—adds a note of forged severity, anchoring the softness of the blond elm with historical weight. The cabinet rests on square legs, each subtly ornamented with relief carving and joined by a horizontal stretcher for added stability.
Wear consistent with age and use. Meticulously preserved by Jada to maintain its structural integrity while honoring its original patina.
Compact in scale but rich in tactile presence, this cabinet offers a sculptural punctuation within an entryway, library, or contemplative interior.
Available for private acquisition. Inquiries from discerning collectors are welcome.
