About the Item

As soon as I rolled this cabinet off the truck, I knew it wasn’t American. Something about the proportions, the warmth of the veneers, the precise curves, it all pointed to a different origin. And once I opened the serpentine doors and saw the full length brass piano hinges and ribbon mahogany lining the interior, it confirmed it: this was a European Art Deco piece, likely Austrian or German, crafted just before the world, and design, changed forever. Built in the 1930s, this cabinet comes from a short window in history when craftsmanship was still indulgent. Materials were abundant, and even interior panels were dressed in premium woods. The curved doors flow into a soft serpentine base, with subtle Art Nouveau remnants still visible in the silhouette. The exterior showcases rich, book matched walnut burl, something you'd expect from high end European workshops of the time, but rarely from American counterparts. After a careful preservation cleaning, conditioning, and a few minor repairs, this piece now stands just as it did nearly a century ago, carrying the quiet opulence of pre-WWII design. It’s a reminder of the era’s pursuit of beauty, just before the war demanded function over form. This hutch is available now and ready for its next chapter. 70w x 63h x 20.5d
