About the Item

This stand once belonged to the household of Jesse and Catherine Ansley, passed down through generations including Edwin P. Ansley (1865–1923), the visionary developer of Ansley Park, Atlanta’s first automobile-oriented suburb. Edwin’s drive to shape the city included securing rail access and building landmarks like the Hotel Ansley, firmly rooting the family name into Atlanta’s urban fabric. From its bold yet balanced American Empire silhouette to the dramatic flame mahogany veneer and original marble top, each element embodies both style and function from the early 19th century. What truly elevates this piece is its lineage: it remained within the Ansley family, accompanying their matching armoire in home after home until only a few months ago, when it first left the family estate. Respectfully restored to honor its age and lineage without erasing it, the stand now blends structural integrity with vintage character. The marble has been polished, the veneer stabilized, and the joinery gently reinforced to ensure the piece is sturdy for everyday use, all while celebrating nearly 200 years of continued American craftsmanship. Pieces with this level of documented provenance, family name, prominent lineage, and connection to the rise of Atlanta rarely come to market. If you're a collector, designer, or history lover, this is the kind of furniture that doesn’t just furnish a room it tells a century-spanning story. 38w x 18d x 30.5h
