19th Century Chinese Tapered Cabinet
About the Item
19th century painted tapered Chinese cabinet. Having elaborate panels with gilt painting and raised moldings. Warm red lacquer adorned with black lacquer and gilt painting. Framing the panels recessed into the molding are remnants of crushed seashell used to add texture and highlight the painted panels. This applique technique using crushed Abalone seashells adds a little sparkle from the fragmented pearl type pieces mixed into the lacquer and is specific to Fujian. Offering good storage inside with three shelf sections, two drawers in middle and two hidden compartments under the bottom shelf. Fujian China, 1880. In good condition. Wonderful cabinet with period charm.
