About the Item

Cabinet from the "4D" series designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Molteni, 1964 - Mahogany, Emperador marble and ribbed wood shutter This refined piece of furniture is part of the famous "4D" series, designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Molteni in 1964. An emblematic example of 1960s Italian design, where formal rigor, functionality and craftsmanship come together in perfect balance. Made of stained walnut, it is distinguished by sophisticated details: the Emperador marble top, the finely shaped ergonomic corners-a hallmark of evolved aesthetics-and the vertical caned wood shutter, which elegantly reveals or conceals storage spaces. A striking feature is the pull-out center top, which converts into a practical desk or storage shelf. At the base, the cabinet is equipped with discrete casters that make it easy to move, allowing for versatility of use. Trimmed on all four sides, it can also be placed in the center of the room, becoming the protagonist of the space and adapting with ease to changes in the home layout. A rare and iconic piece that retains intact the charm of Italian modernism and continues to speak a contemporary language. Provenance: personal archive of cabinetmaker Pierluigi Ghianda, Mangiarotti's longtime collaborator. Designers: Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century Italian design and architecture. His work is distinguished by its rigorous approach, formal elegance and profound knowledge of materials, always put at the service of function. An architect, designer, and sculptor, Mangiarotti has collaborated with major Italian companies, including Molteni, Artemide, Cassina, and Skipper, resulting in timelessly designed objects. Among his hallmarks: the ability to combine technical precision and craftsmanship sensitivity, exploring the construction potential of wood, stone and glass with originality.
