About the Item
This handsome George III cellarette dates to the late 18th century and was likely crafted in England for storing wine or spirits in a refined domestic setting. Constructed of solid mahogany with rich grain and warm patina, the case features a subtly serpentine front with shaped apron and graceful cabriole legs in the French taste—a stylistic blend seen in finer English cabinetry of the late Georgian period. The dovetailed case is topped by a hinged lid that opens to reveal a fitted interior, once used to house bottles or decanters.
The front is adorned with delicate line inlay forming faux paneling on each door, a refined decorative touch characteristic of the period. Sturdy brass drop handles on each side speak to its original function as a portable drinks cabinet, often brought out during entertaining. The proportions make it a versatile piece—ideal for use as a drinks cabinet, side table, or an elegant entryway accent.
In nice antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including some sun fading and scattered surface marks to the top (visible in photos) and a small patch repair to the front apron. Structurally sound and full of character, this is a charming and functional example of 18th century craftsmanship ready for continued use. 25h x 21w x 17d
