About the Item

This solid antique mahogany desk top document chest is completely unsigned, but presumed to have been made in England in circa 1900 in the period Edwardian style. The front of the chest opens with two doors with brass hinges to reveal a series of compartments with a drawer at the bottom and a scroll styled perpetual calendar at the top. The inside of either door functions as a book rest of easel to hold documents and letters. There is a removable bottom to one of the compartments to reveal a hideaway cubbyhole and the top flips open to permit the calendar to be removed. This is a very well constructed desk top chest using solid mahogany and brass hardware. Even the small scrolls have nicely turned wooden posts which all function as intended. The key is original and the lock is operational, but due to the front doors shrinking and warping from age, is not functional given the gap between them. Regardless, a very tasteful desk top functional accessory.
