About the Item

Built around the 1950s, this unique rectangular cabinet/sideboard is made entirely of wood with a top that appears to be black melamine and rests on a black wooden base. . It features three sliding doors on the front with black wooden wing-shaped handles. Also present, in the top center, is a storage compartment with three drawers, two of which are red and yellow. . The cabinet and drawers are removable. . At the bottom left, two drawers open with doors (they open from front to back) onto storage spaces. . On the other side of the cabinet, it features three sliding doors and one fixed door, as well as a space that can be used as a serving hatch. . These doors open onto the shelves and storage spaces. . Made in France. . Without validation or attribution, which explains its "low" price, this work is reminiscent of works by Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, and Le Corbusier. . Dimensions: Height : 110 cm Length : 130 cm Depth : 40 cm . Very beautiful cabinet from the 50 s. . It is in good vintage condition with some signs of wear, especially on the lower part of the cabinet which is black with some color loss and scratches on the black top of the cabinet. The shelves inside are stained in places as you can see in the photos, which in no way detracts from the beauty of this piece. . Do not hesitate to ask me for more photos and to ask me your questions. Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) is one of the pioneers of the innovative production of 20th century furniture and architecture. Anxious to fit in with his time, he explored all the technical resources of metal and quickly moved from wrought iron work to constructive applications of folded sheet metal. . Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) is considered one of the most important female designers of the 1950s. Having collaborated for a long time with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, she produced several pieces of metal furniture in 1927 - including the famous chaise longue with variable position that Thonet will publish two years later. . Le Corbusier is a well-known architect, born in 1887 in Haut-Jura (Switzerland) and died in 1965 in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (France). His real name is Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris. He choose Le Corbusier as his pseudonym. He was also an urban planner, decorator, painter and man of letters.

H. 74 cm W. 131 cm D. 71 cm Provenance : University residence - France - 1950 Roger Landault . This office by Robert Charroy bears the marks of its use, and for good reason, it has equipped the Jean Zay university residence, for which it was designed. The patina of time therefore takes on all its charm, with a touch of nostalgia for some. This piece of furniture tells the story of an exceptional context, that of the student housing project launched in the emergency of post-war reconstruction, in 1948, and which has evolved to become the most ambitious university pilot program in Europe. In 1954, he offered to accommodate 3,000 students in functionally furnished accommodation and common areas, thanks to two competitions organized in 1955 and 1956. The watchword: quality produced at a lower cost using industrial processes . A beautiful playground for designers, including Jean Prouvé and Charlotte Perriand Marcel Gascoin, Roger Landault, Jean Lesage...
